Master 2015
MASTER are one of the most well known and longest running Death Metal acts on the planet.
In 1983 Bill Schmidt & Paul Speckmann had begun writing songs in the Thrash vein & starts an new band called MASTER.
1985 they obtained a record deal with Combat Records after recording an albums worth of demo tracks which were not released until 2003 by Displeased Records as „Unreleased 1985 album“.
1990 the band was signed by the German label Nuclear Blast Records, who also had contracted Speckmann’s other band ABOMINATION.
In 1991, the 2nd album was released: „On the Seventh Day God Created … Master“ featuring Paul Masvidal on lead guitar, followed by the „Collection of Souls“ in 1993.
Thereafter their record deal ended and MASTER went on hiatus to find a new record label. Five years layer, „Faith Is in Season“ was released.
Speckmann then focused on several other projects, including the resurrected ABOMINATION and eventually joined the Czech band KRABATHOR, for which Speckmann relocated to the Czech Republic.
In 2002 the next album was released, titled „Let’s Start a War“ by System Shock, which also contracted KRABATHOR. In 2004 „Spirit of the West“ followed on the same label. They then switched labels again and released „Four More Years of Terror“ in 2005.
The next album „Slaves to Society“ was released in May 2007. So the band was embark after this to a European tour, followed by another tour with Chicago legend LIVIDITY and many more gigs around the world.
The Trio infernale recorded two more studio albums „The Human Machine“ and „The New Elite“ & were thus always present for all Death Metal fans around the world.
In retrospect, Master’s influence is certainly overlooked, but MASTER stayed together, going through many line-up changes. MASTER continues to touring and record albums all year by year, but no energy or style-drift!
To sum up MASTER’s impact, they helped invent grindcore & death metal, and for many death metal bands listing MASTER as an influence is almost second nature.
OBITUARY never hid their MASTER influence, and bands like NUNSLAUGHTER, EXHUMED & PENTACLE all list DEATH STRIKE & MASTER as inspirational to their noise. TERRORIZER, NAUSEA, NAPALM DEATH, RIGHTEOUS PIGS, REPULSION, BENEDICTION, ENTOMBED & OBITUARY all owe their bit to MASTER.
Even if your not a fan of those bands, if your a punk or whatever, have a listen to MASTER, and I’m sure you’ll like them.
For fans of heavy, face-ripping music, MASTER are mandatory.
The last, highly successful, album „The Witchhunt“ in 2013 was already released via the German cult label F.D.A. Rekotz and so also will the new masterpiece „An Epiphany Of Hate“ out there on CD and Vinyl.
